CROFT CIRCUIT ANNOUNCES FIRST ‘NOSTALGIA WEEKEND’ EVENT
- North-East circuit set for two days of fast cars from Forties, Fifties, Sixties & Seventies
- Public invited to dress in period costume to build atmosphere
- Military, classic car & air displays plus Forties Fashion Show also confirmed
The Croft motor racing circuit in the North-East of England will reverberate to the sound of classic motor racing engines spanning four decades (Forties-Fifties-Sixties-Seventies) when it stages the region’s first ever Croft Nostalgia Weekend (7-8 August).
The event will include 16 races for nine of the UK’s top historic motor racing categories – each run by the Historic Sports Car Club and ranging from saloon, sports, GT and single-seater cars. >From 500cc Formula 3s (among the first cars raced in Britain following the Second World War) right up to 150mph sportscars and Formula 5000 single-seaters from the Seventies, an exceptional line-up of cars will be arriving at the Croft circuit to dazzle the crowds.
And there’ll also be plenty happening off track with military, classic car, air and other retro displays and even a Forties Fashion Show guaranteeing non-stop entertainment for the crowds throughout the weekend.
What’s more, tickets to Croft’s Nostalgia Weekend can be purchased from as little as £10 (a saving of up to £5) if booked in advance online on the www.croftcircuit.co.uk website. Children aged 15 and under will be admitted free of charge.
Further details about the Nostalgia Weekend at Croft – just off the A1 near Darlington – will be released in the coming weeks.
Croft Circuit Manager Tracey Morley said: “This is very much a first for not just Croft but the region as a whole. The big nostalgia and historic motor sport events attract very large numbers of people – they appeal to all ages and, after all, everyone loves to roll back the years – but they tend to be based in the South. We felt it was time to give the North East an event all of its own with this, our first Nostalgia Weekend.
“In addition to the fantastic line-up of races we have in store, it’s also of course a golden opportunity for people from across the region to dress up in period costume from the Forties, Fifties, Sixties or Seventies and add to the atmosphere during the event. We very much look forward to seeing people – including families and casual motor sport enthusiasts as well as our many thousands of regular fans – turning out in force and joining in the fun as we aim to firmly establishing this as a major event for the future.”
HSCC Chief Executive Grahame White believes Croft is the perfect venue for a Nostalgia Weekend. He commented: “We’re extremely excited to be running a race event at Croft for what will be the first time in four years. The circuit is very popular among drivers and also many people from the huge surrounding catchment area. It also retains many of its original characteristics as a race circuit dating back to the mid-Sixties so is an ideal venue for an event of this nature. The Nostalgia Weekend will be a unique event for the region and one for people of all ages to really feel a part of.”
