More details of the superb line-up of entertainment during the first Croft Nostalgia Weekend (7-8 August) have been released.

The first event of its kind in the North-East will feature 16 races for an increasing number of (now more than 180) rare and iconic sports, saloon, GT and single-seater cars from the Forties, Fifties, Sixties and Seventies. The line-up is worth many millions of pounds with some cars having been individually valued at £250,000.There will be a number of local drivers for the crowds to get behind, namely John Waggitt (Boroughbridge), Andrew Thorpe, Mark Dwyer and Dean Forward (all Huddersfield), father and son Jim and Richard Evans (Leyburn and Whitley Bay respectively), Amanda Whitaker (Newton Aycliffe), Jim Clark (Selby) and David Betts (Holmfirth).

Also on the track will be former Formula 1 Grand Prix driver Ian Ashley while one driver, James Fuller, is planning to fly all the way from Antigua in the West Indies to compete in the event!

Pictured above on track during a sneak preview media day at Croft yesterday are racers Waggit and Thorpe in their single-seaters (Brabham and March) leading an early Fifties Jaguar C-type and a late Fifties Chevrolet Corvette C1 which will also both be returning to the North Yorkshire circuit for its Nostalgia Weekend in just over a week’s time.

Organisers have now revealed further information about what’s in store off-track as well for the public who themselves are being encouraged to dress in period costume and add to the atmosphere. Tickets can still be booked from just £10 per adult* via the www.croftcircuit.co.uk website or by calling 01325 721815 (admission for children aged 15 & under is FREE).

As well as a Forties fashion show, George Formby tribute, ‘living history’ WWII encampments and Army Kitchen serving up food from the period, there’ll be public rides around the Croft circuit on the Sunday morning in a vintage open top bus.

More than 200 classic cars, motorcycles and military vehicles plus aircraft have been pledged for static exhibitions with more offers being received on a daily basis! Perhaps the rarest model of car on show will be a Swallow Doretti from the Fifties while other makes include famous names such as Aston Martin, Austin, Chevrolet, Jaguar, Jensen, Land Rover, Lea-Francis, Marcos, Mini, Renault, Rolls Royce, Rover, Sunbeam, Triumph, Volvo and Wolseley. Of the motorcycles, Honda, Matchless, Triumph and Velocette are all well represented. The 50-plus WWII military vehicles present will include jeeps, tanks (including a 19-ton Chaffee from WWII), motorcycles weapons carriers and even an ice cream tricycle!

Furthermore, there’ll be air displays from two stunning bi-planes, a Booker Jungmeister and an Isaacs Fury which will then form part of a static exhibition on the ground along with an Auster AOP5 ‘spy plane’ from the Forties.

* Prices £10 per adult if booked by 5pm Monday 2 August. On-the-day prices are then £15 per adult although admission for children aged 15 & under remains FREE.
