As the curtain is drawn on another season of racing here at Croft, we take time to have a look back over our resident DDMC Northern Saloons and Sports Car Championship (NSSCC), after yet another thrilling year.

After seven rounds and 14 races, comprising visits to Croft, Knockhill, Mallory Park and Cadwell Park, it was Paul Moss who grasped back to back titles, in his familiar Citroen Saxo. Having being crowned champion last year, Paul fought for honours once again, with tough competition from the usual suspects.

The opening round, back in April, saw Mark Campbell storm to overall honours, whilst Ginetta G50 Championship regulars Benji and Freddie Hetherington accompanied him onto the podium. A decent sized grid saw the season get into gear in style, with the stage set for round two.

Round two again saw Campbell make his mark at the top of the time sheets with another overall victory, courtesy of his Lotus Elan, however with Moss stealing another Class D victory he was quietly collecting the necessary points.

Before long the season had settled into a nice rhythm, with ample grids to go with the action. As seemed to be the theme of the year, Moss gradually gained the advantage, which he never relinquished. After a final score of 280 points, it was the 2009 Champion who soon became triple Champion (having also taking series honours in 2007), adding to his already impressive accomplishments.

When dropped scores were taken into account, Ian Humpish was second in command, with a points tally of 266 points, while third place was awarded to Peter Dixon and his Honda Civic, just two points adrift.

As ever the 2010 DDMC NSSCC was a festival of fun, thrills and spills, ensuring the crowds were kept entertained and the drivers continually enjoyed doing what they do best. Fingers crossed that 2011 will be another good year for the series, but if previous years are anything to go by, it’ll be just as popular as ever.
