After a successful appearance last year, The Greenpower Challenge is returning to Croft Circuit in July this year.

Aimed at encouraging aspiring young engineers to fulfil their dream career, the Greenpower Challenge has established itself over previous years to hold the status it currently does. More and more schools and pupils take part in the competition each year, as they each strive to make the strongest endurance electric race car.

The Croft Circuit round in 2010 saw schools from around the UK make the trip to our circuit, to pit themselves against one another in their respective classes. The challenge has been separated into different categories, with the Formula 24 and Formula 24+ holding the focus in recent years.

The last few years have seen the Sandbach High School, from Cheshire, place highly in the final standings; a feat we’re sure they will be aiming to repeat in 2011. The school have been staking their claim to Greenpower since 2003, and first claimed the Formula 24 title in 2008, while the Formula 24+ title came to them in 2009. However, despite their hard work and previous success, everyone else will likely be right on their tails, and eager to take honours home themselves this year.

This year’s event at Croft takes place on Wednesday 6th July, with everyone keen to show the North-East what they have been working on so far this year.
